Product Review: John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze

So the skinny on John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze is that you're supposed to leave it on for three minutes after shampooing and conditioning at least three times a week, then rinse out. It's supposed to boost your color and also improve the shine of your hair.

I had been meaning to try this product for awhile, so when I saw it on offer at Big Lots for only 4$, half the drug store price, I finally caved in to my hair's demand for more shine and shimmer. Since my hair is dark brown, I got the brown shade. I have previously used the color enhancing shampoo/conditioner by John Frieda and liked it... I just get tired of my hair color half way through, so I stopped buying products designed for a specific hair color.

Fast forward to, oh, about 10 minutes ago in the shower when I first tried the color glaze. My first reaction: leave it on for three WHOLE minutes *at least*... What am I going to do for three minutes!? Let's get something straight... Chilling in the water is great when it's like the ocean, or a hot tub, but in the shower - I just wanna get in, do what I gotta do, and get out. I rationalized it to myself saying that this would be a great chance to exfoliate all my dead cells off my elbows, knees, and other areas. Three minutes wouldn't be so bad.

So I opened the bottle, and poured some into my hand. A puddle of brown shimmery goo. Liquidy goo. I think by definition goo is slightly thicker. I proceeded to put some on my hair, and some more, and more until the entire length was very lightly saturated, the top layer anyway. I couldn't bring myself to work it through the layers - I rationalized that they didn't need to be shimmery anyway.

And then it began to drip down my shoulders, on to the back of the tub - everywhere! The back of my tub looked more like a toilet with this brown runny gooey stuff everywhere! The kicker - I just scrubbed it yesterday!

So, does John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze really enhance brown tones and make your hair super shimmery? Damned if I'll ever know! I'm really not trying to scrub my bathtub on a daily basis for a bit of highlight to my hair.
