Shades of Gray

I pressed the cigarette between my quivering lips, taking one last drag, sucking down to the filter. Simultaneously I blew the smoke from my lungs up toward the bathroom vent and turned on the sink. Rinsing away the flame, the porcelain white sink was now scattered with ash. Shades of gray were all I could see.

I sauntered into the bedroom to find the box of cereal I'd packed. I sat on the bed and picked at the tiny green marshmallows inside hoping that they could satisfy the growling of my stomach. But I had no luck, with each bite my hunger intensified. If only I would have had the energy to put on a pair of pants over his favorite black lace panties and throw on a jacket, the whole situation could have been avoided.

The tears were clouding my vision. I couldn't tell right from left or up from down. How was I supposed to do something as complicated as getting dressed? How could I find the hotel elevator and walk down the block to get food. Surely this eating thing was for someone far more capable than me.

Instead, I grabbed the make-shift ashtray from the dresser and pulled it close to my face. The scent was still there to comfort me. All I had left of him was a roach. And at that moment, I had an epiphany. I took the plastic bag from the ice bucket and secured it around the smoke detector with a hair tie, pressed another Camel between my lips and lit up. I smoked until the pain in my lungs rivaled that of the pain in my chest.

Sinfully Summer

Allure Magazine swears rose gold shades are perfect to compliment this summer's fashion. While I've been an Allure subscriber for quite some time, I couldn't disagree more.

If you're a northerner there are only 3 months a year that you can pull of wearing crazy bright colored nail polish without looking like a ghetto-fab-wannabe-diva. Living in the south, this season is extended a bit, but regardless, wear a bright colored polish in the middle of December and you risk looking trashy and delusional.

Enter my latest addiction - Sinful Colors Professional Nail Polish. They don't have fun names like OPI a la "An Affair In Red Square" or "That's Hot! Pink" but at 1.99$ a pop at Walgreen's, I can live with that. The summer collection is so bright and fun... And didn't I mention they're 2 bucks? For 12 bucks, the cost of 2 bottles of OPI (if you're lucky), you can own the entire summer collection, in colors like Irish Green, which reminds me of one of those plastic tee shirt tie clips I had when I was 8, and Summer Peach, the kind of bright orange that us dark-haired ravens pray our hair doesn't turn when we try bleaching for that summer blonde look.

Sinful Colors also has a city line which I found on their website. It features cities like Orlando, which appears to be a silvery glitter polish, although the swatch isn't very big. And for those of you without a Walgreen's nearby who can't find Sinful Colors, their website also offers online ordering for 2.50$ a pop. Check them out HERE.

July has only just started - which leaves at least 2 more months of bright nail polish wearing so get on it!
